5 Things Everyone Should Know About Acceptance
Anyone else out there coping with a lot of change during this COVID-19 pandemic we’ve been experiencing? I know at Atlanta Addiction Treatment Center, we have remained open to serve those in need, but with many precautions and adjustments. For me, these acts of flexibility have been navigated during a sea of change in my own personal life.
One of my big, life lessons has been learning to let go of control. I have often been a terrible student when the people, places, things and situations trying to teach me said lesson have shown up. This popular recovery principle has a close relative we refer to as acceptance. When I do welcome these principles into my life, I experience miracles. Truly.
My husband shared this article with me, “5 Things Everyone Should Know about Acceptance,” and I wanted to pass on some of these wise words by psychotherapist and wellness writer, Megan Bruneau. He thought I’d appreciate it since I have experimented quite a lot with the Big Book adage, “…and acceptance is the answer to all my problems….” In the article, she posits the solution to so much suffering, “…I began to understand why desiring something else- something other than what is for the most part out of my control—was causing me more pain than accepting that, at least for now, this was the way it was going to be.” Can you feel the freedom in that thought? She goes on to make some other good points that I invite you to ponder on your journey of Recovery. This article and this principle feel oh so timely right now for me! I hope you find some hope and solution in it. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Feel free to check in with comments on the article or ways you’ve experienced this principle. I’d love to hear from you.
